Gynecology & Urogynecology
About
Dr. Richter is a highly trained gynaecologist and certified urogynaecology subspecialist, with the professional dedication of helping women to recover their pelvic functional health and obtaining their feminine aesthetic best. He has over 25 years of international experience as a specialist in private and academic practice. He has been training colleagues in advanced techniques and obtains training nationally and internationally as an important and most enjoyable part of his professional life. The most satisfying part of his calling is to help the woman who is suffering from prolapse, incontinence and pelvic pain, on whom other doctors have given up on. His motto is that his extensive experience and training gives him the ability to help these women. He is a certified urogynaecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery subspecialist, and is also a certified aesthetic (cosmetic) gynaecological surgeon.
History
He was born, raised and trained in South Africa. He worked in Canada and is Board certified with the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He worked in the US, and in the Cayman Islands. He directed the gynaecological endoscopy unit at the University of the Free State in South Africa for almost 5 years. He performed laparoscopic hysterectomy, treatment of deep endometriosis and laparoscopic cancer and prolapse surgery on an almost daily basis. He trained as a urogynaecologist during this time and is skilled in the whole spectrum of vaginal prolapse surgery, treatment of fistulae and old obstetrical lacerations. His philosophy is a multi-disciplinary approach and he interacts and consults with a Women’s Health physiotherapist and colorectal surgeon on a regular basis. This approach benefits women with prolapse, urinary and certain bowel-related symptoms, and women with pelvic pain. He is extremely grateful to his past and present colleagues who have had a massive positive impact on his skills. This includes the American gynaecologist, Dr. Harry Reich, who is a true pioneer and the first doctor to perform laparoscopic hysterectomy 30 years ago! The latest skill that he has developed is that of aesthetic gynaecological surgeon, offering labiaplasty, vaginal rejuvenation and the whole spectrum of female cosmetic genital surgery. He is presently training in neuropelveology, the complex field of the neurology of the pelvis.
What is a Gynecologist sub specialist
These are obstetricians and gynaecologists who have undertaken additional training and are recognised to have subspecialty expertise in their field. There are four recognised subspecialties in obstetrics and gynaecology: gynaecological oncology, maternal and foetal medicine, reproductive medicine, and urogynaecology.
