Professor Adrian Wilson is a world renowned knee and sports injury specialist with a global reputation for knee realignment surgery (osteotomy). One of Europe’s foremost authorities in the field of ACL/ligament repair, he has developed revolutionary techniques for treating sports injuries. He is an expert in treating children’s knee problems and is also Visiting Professor to the department of Sport & Exercise at the University of Winchester.
Professor Wilson’s primary objective is always to restore function to the knee using proven, minimally invasive techniques, many of which have been refined by him over his distinguished career. His focus is on repairing and preserving knee function so patients can return to the activities they enjoy as quickly and safely as possible.
He has pioneered ground-breaking techniques for ACL repair and anterolateral ligament (ALL) repair, as an alternative to reconstruction for damaged cruciate ligaments, and many of his innovative procedures for treating sports injuries are now routinely used worldwide.
Professor Wilson was one of the surgeons at the forefront of developing the new ALL-Inside reconstruction technique for ACL reconstruction surgery and thanks to his research and presentations over the last ten years, this has become the preferred method of carrying out ACL surgery in Europe, USA and Asia.
He has unparalleled experience when it comes to ACL repair using the internal brace technique in children and has set up the Children’s Knee Clinic at The Portland Hospital in London.
Patients, both adults and children, frequently travel from outside the UK to be treated by Professor Wilson, and he regularly speaks and demonstrates his innovations to expert international audiences.
Co-founder of the first national database for osteotomy surgery, he is particularly acclaimed for his work in this field, an alternative to knee replacement surgery, especially in younger, active patients. He continues to innovate to further improve this joint preserving procedure and established the dedicated London Knee Osteotomy Centre at the Harley Street Specialist Hospital in London.
He was the first to bring adipose tissue therapy to the UK, a treatment which harnesses the body’s own natural repair cells to ease arthritic pain, and recently set up The Regenerative Clinic, also in London, which offers non-surgical treatments such as Lipogems®.
